Let's talk microchips!Did you know that simply having your pet microchipped is not enough? We cannot stress enough how important it is to REGISTER your pets microchip.A microchip is a tiny form of permanent identification placed under your pet's skin. When scanned by a veterinarian or animal rescue, it provides a unique identification number that can be used to help locate the pet's owner.🚨 BUT HERE'S THE PROBLEM…Far too often, lost animals are found with microchips that have never been registered, or the contact information is outdated. Imagine your beloved pet goes missing. Someone finds them, brings them to a rescue or veterinary clinic, and they're scanned. Great news, they have a microchip! But when we look up that number, there's no owner information attached to it. We have your pet. We have their microchip number. But we have NO WAY to contact you! 🥺A microchip that isn't registered loses its most important purpose, which is helping reunite a lost animal with its family.🐶🐱 Please register your pet's microchip. It only takes a few minutes, but those few minutes could mean everything if your pet ever goes missing.❤️ At Paws Across Timiskaming, our goal is always to reunite lost animals with their families whenever possible. But we can only do so much when we have no way of identifying or contacting their owners.Microchipping is an amazing tool, but it only works as intended when the information connected to it is accurate and up to date.
